Sponsor/Funding:

Bundeszentrale für gesundheitliche Aufklärung

The funding project aims to conduct an impact analysis of artistic therapies and art-based pedagogical approaches and to analyse the feasibility of such approaches in the school setting (primary and secondary school).
In order to be able to assess the effects, research questions in four subject areas are to be answered: 1. Classification and analysis of existing approaches to artistic therapies and art-based pedagogy. 2. Analysis of empirical studies on the effects and effectiveness of artistic therapies and art-based pedagogical approaches. 3. Practical aspects of the use of artistic therapies and art-based pedagogies in the school setting (primary and secondary school). 4. Analysis of further possibilities for implementing artistic therapies and art-based pedagogies in primary and secondary schools in Germany.
In order to achieve the research objectives, the first step is to conduct a literature review (scoping review) with an analysis of empirical studies on the effectiveness of artistic therapies and art-based pedagogical approaches to health promotion in children and adolescents. In the second step, projects and programmes that have already been implemented and that use art-based therapy/pedagogy to promote the health of school children in primary and secondary schools in Germany will be identified. The identified projects will be analysed in terms of their conceptual, pedagogical and organisational aspects in order to understand the practical side of their implementation in the school setting. In the third step, discussions will be held with experts from science and practice in focus groups. The discussion will be geared towards formulating necessary framework conditions and recommendations for the further implementation of art therapies and art-based pedagogy for the health promotion of children and adolescents in primary and secondary schools in Germany.
