In order to relieve the burden on teachers and to provide individual support for learners, school principals in Germany are increasingly relying on digital options. This is the conclusion of the second Cornelsen School Leadership Study, which the FiBS conducted with the participation of its Senior Expert Prof. Dr. Klaus Hurrelmann.
More than 2,000 headteachers took part in the representative survey. In-depth one-on-one interviews were also conducted with 20 headteachers. ‘The school principals have surprisingly specific proposals for how to deal with the current challenges. They are calling for the immediate further training of teaching staff in order to implement didactically valuable digitalised teaching,’ says Hurrelmann. ‘Germany should listen carefully to its school principals.’ Dr Sarah Fichtner, head of the study, adds: ’The fact that half of all school principals are already using external coaching on their own initiative shows how important the further development of schools and teaching is to them.’
