Germany needs a ‘new culture of learning’ to make schools future-proof. This is the conclusion of a representative study of school principals conducted by the FiBS Research Institute for the Economics of Education and Social Affairs in Berlin on behalf of Cornelsen. According to 82 per cent of the respondents, the model of the future is the integrated all-day school, which can make a significant contribution to equal opportunities in education.
The Cornelsen School Leadership Study was conducted for the first time in 2021/2022. For this study, FiBS surveyed more than 1,100 school principals from different types of schools and across Germany online about their expectations for the school of the future. In addition, more in-depth individual interviews were conducted with 50 school principals. FiBS conducted the study with the participation of the renowned education researcher Prof. Dr. Klaus Hurrelmann. He has a very unique relationship with school principals: ‘As a student with a complicated school career, I know that school leadership is a key role in our society, one that is important for the entire further development, not only in terms of educational policy, but also in terms of family, cultural and municipal policy.’
