The AHEAD Trend Analysis of Digital Higher Education in Germany 2030

The German government commissioned the AHEAD study (short for ‘A Higher Education - Digital’) to an international consortium to consider the future of higher education and formulate possible scenarios for 2030.
The AHEAD study attempts to answer the following questions: What will be learned by whom, with which learning arrangements and in which type of organisational environment? In the initial debates on the transformation of higher education, it was seemingly overlooked that digitalisation is not a purely technological innovation that determines change, but merely a new technology that must be embedded in social innovation processes. Yet this is precisely what is so important.
The AHEAD study will take this insight into account when identifying viable ideas for shaping higher education for the future. This short article sets out some of the cornerstones of this development.
