Dr. Akiiki Babyesiza has been working as a research associate at FiBS since May 2020 as part of the 'Impact Evaluation of the Project "Subjective Relevance (SuRe) online"'.

Ms. Babyesiza is an Africanist and sociologist with many years of experience in qualitative social research, international comparative university research and the evaluation of science-related projects of development cooperation in sub-Saharan Africa. In this context she has conducted research stays in Ethiopia, Kenya, Mozambique, South Africa, Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda.

As a university researcher, she has worked at the International Centre for Higher Education Research (INCHER) at the University of Kassel, the Bayreuth International Graduate School of African Studies (BIGSAS) at the University of Bayreuth, the Robert Bosch Academy and for a university consulting firm. Her work focused on university reforms and university funding in Germany and Europe, university governance and entrepreneurial universities in African countries.

Dr. Babyesiza studied African, Islamic and Jewish Studies at the University of Cologne and Arabic at the University of Cairo in Egypt. After gaining initial professional experience in international higher education cooperation with developing countries, she completed her doctorate in sociology (higher education research) at the University of Kassel on the topic of higher education governance in the context of the post-conflict reconstruction of Southern Sudan.
