For a bilateral research project with Chilean partners, we are looking (subject to approval by the project executing agency) for a scientific assistant on a part-time basis from 01 August 2019. The aim of the project is to assess the status quo of vocational education and training in the mining sector in Chile and to identify future qualification needs in the field of sustainability and industry 4.0.
- You provide technical and organisational support to the project management. You will take on scientific subtasks independently.
- You undertake literature searches and prepare qualitative and quantitative analyses on the subject of continuing education.
- You will conduct expert interviews (in Germany) and develop the necessary survey instruments as part of a team.
- Together with the project management you will bring together the results of the various project partners.
- You actively participate in workshops and technical discussions with various actors in Chile and Germany.
- You present (partial) results in written and verbal form to the expert public.
- You have a university degree, preferably in education, social sciences or economics.
- In addition, you have initial professional research experience in the field of education and training.
- Very good knowledge of Spanish (min. C1) is required. You are also fluent in German and English.
- You are willing to take business trips of several weeks. It is planned to take part in two research stays in Chile lasting approximately ten to fourteen days.
- You can deal with the qualitative and quantitative methods of empirical social research.
- Your work is characterized by an analytical, structured and goal-oriented way of thinking and proceeding.
- You are strong in communication and have very good written and verbal skills.
- You are very familiar with Microsoft Office and at least one statistics program (SPSS or Stata).

To strengthen our quantitative and qualitative empirical research in the field of education, we’re looking for an economist or social scientist with a specialization in higher education and/or (advanced) vocational training, as well as a psychologist or pedagogy/education expert specialized in primary and secondary education and (advanced) vocational training.
In addition to a college degree and preferably a PhD, you will have worked for one or two years as a researcher and project manager in the education and social economy sector. Also necessary are expertise in the educational sciences, strong analytical and methodological skills, knowledge of politics, and some experience in project acquisition, writing reports, and giving presentations. Excellent computer skills (including statistics programs) are a must, as is familiarity with working in an interdisciplinary, intercultural team. Experience in project management and in dealing with decision-makers in politics, business, society, and science and scholarship is desirable.
Your strengths include quality and time management, high performance under pressure, and taking pleasure in demanding work. In addition to excellent German and English skills you know at least one additional foreign language.

At the earliest possible date, we are looking to hire one or two student research assistants to support our team. Depending on previous knowledge and experience, the job includes research and organizational tasks.
Ideally you are pursuing a degree in a field relevant to our work, such as economics, sociology, political science, psychology, or pedagogy. In addition, you have outstanding computer skills (MS Office, knowledge of CMS, statistics programs desirable) and excellent command of German and English. Interest in the Institute’s areas of expertise and in political education is essential. Practical office experience is an advantage.
Research assistants preferably work an average of 16 hours/week, although hours can vary. The position offers challenging and diverse work and a wage of 12.50 EUR/hour. We’re interested in making a longer-term hire, i.e. a contract with FiBS would last until you have finished your degree.
