Continuing education

Michael Cordes, PhD has been a project leader and senior researcher at FiBS since 2018. Since Februrary 2022 he is the deputy director of the FiBS. His expertise lies primarily in the field of continuing education, where he focuses above all on quality management systems as well as grant and funding instruments.

Before joining FiBS, he spent 15 years on the continuing education team at Stiftung Warentest, initially as a project leader and then (beginning in 2008) as a team leader. In that time he oversaw more than 50 projects studying the quality of educational offerings. In addition, he and his team developed an information portal for consumers, the Weiterbildungsguide.

From 2013 to 2017, Michael Cordes served as a consumer representative at the German Institute for Standardization (DIN), where he was a member of the Working Group for Learning Services. From 1999 to 2010, he was an active member of the German Association for University Continuing and Distance Education (DGWF).

Michael Cordes studied sociology and education at the University of Regensburg, where he went on to write a dissertation on the topic of skills development. In 2008 he completed advanced training as an economist at the Institute for Economic Research and Continuing Education (IWW) at the University of Hagen.
